7 Resolutions for Horse Lovers
7. Find That Ever-Elusive Breed
Whether it’s a rare wood grain thoroughbred model or a complementary piece of livestock you simply haven’t been able to find, resolve to find it, whether it means begging or bartering! Post your needs here at Breyer Horse Talk and perhaps you can find someone to purchase from or swap with. You can also try eBay and local antique malls.
6. Modify One of Your Duplicates
Sure, you might be hanging on to your doubles for trade-ins, but why not have some fun with one of them? Customize it with adornments, jewels, costumes, whatever you like. Paint it and give it a whole new look. If you’re artistic, how about making into something truly unique—like a hippie tie-dye horse or a superhero horse?
5. Fulfill a Friend’s Horse Dream
If you’ve got a friend who’s looking for that special breed, make his or her day by providing either the funds or manpower to find that one horse.
4. Design That Perfect Stable
Many people display their Breyer horses on a shelf or other display unit, but if you’ve always wanted to display your collection in a pretty green pasture, why not make one? You can buy plenty of accessories online, of course, but you could also get creative—use clay, Leggos, construction paper, shoeboxes, whatever you like to create that cool landscape. Be sure to decorate it with each season as well; for example hang up some hearts and cupids around your horses for Valentine’s Day.
3. Make a Real Horse Dream Come True
Many Breyer horse collectors are avid equine fans in general, but have you ever actually gone on a horseback ride or even pet a horse? If not, make that dream come true this year by buying a lesson (or several lessons!), seeing a horse at a stable, or even buying a horse if you have the means, the room, and have been wanting to do so.
2. Help Rescue a Real Horse
There are unfortunately many abused horses that fall into the wrong hands every year. To combat this problem, horse rescue shelters help revive and care for these gentle creatures. Perhaps you could donate time or money to one of these special places, such as the Indiana or Colorado Horse Rescue.
1. Get a Friend Interested
If you want to share your love of Breyer horses with a friend, help him or her get started with a collection. Give one or two horses to start, and throw in a couple of accessories if you like. Don’t have a friend who likes horses? Maybe a niece or nephew would be interested.
