Gem Twist's Clone

I was thinking about Gem Twist this morning, after running across a Sapphire model for sale.  Sapphire's model is of course based on the Gem Twist mold, which was created in 1993 by Kathleen Moody to celebrate one of the best show jumpers in history, named "World's Best Horse" at the 1990 World Equestrian Games.

With his legendary success, Gem Twist would have been able to command ridiculously high stud fees.  One small problem: Despite all of his astonishing success, Gem Twist - a gelding - was unable to pass along his genetic legacy.  His retirement ceremony was held at Madison Square Garden in 1997. He was euthanized in 2006, at the age of 27.

(I wasn't able to learn why Gem Twist had been gelded in the first place, although I did find a mention of him being considered a "challenging" ride.  Perhaps he was gelded in an attempt to settle his temperament?  If you know, drop me a comment!)

Peter Stone Model Horses

Obviously this is a site dedicated to Breyer horses!  But I wanted to take a minute to talk about Stone Horses.  Although many people collect either one or the other, there is a lot of overlap between the two.  As well there should be!

A bit of history: the original Breyer CEO was a man named Sam Stone.  He steered the company in the 1950s, when Breyer went from a company that produced molded plastic things, to a company that exclusively produced molded plastic animals.

In 1984, Sam's son Peter became the CEO of Breyer.  When Breyer was sold to Reeves International (a move which marked the end of Breyer, in the minds of many collectors) Peter Stone jumped ship.

Special Breyer El Pastor/Rocky Mountain Horse

Model Horse BLAB forum user Paparazzi scored some awesome models at Breyer's WEG sales floor, and was kind enough to post pictures of all of them for us last week.  I was particularly intrigued by the first horse pictured, a "dappled chocolate El Pastor" bearing a hang tag that identifies it as a Rocky Mountain Horse.

The Rocky Mountain Horse is one of America's few truly native breeds.  All Rocky Mountain Horses trace their lineage back to Tobe, a stallion who lived and worked in Kentucky in the early 20th century.

Tobe's owner, Sam Tuttle, ran the trail riding concession at eastern Kentucky's Natural Bridge State Park.  The park's narrow, mountainous trails and inexperienced tourists demanded a horse that was small, easy to ride, kind, difficult to startle, and physically tough.

Back Cracking

My traditional breyer milton's back is cracking down the middle where they put the 2 pieces together. I dont want an ugly glue stripe down it and i really dont want to customize this model.  I'm not sure what to do so if you can give me advice/ tell me what to do that would be great! Thanks.
